QR code stickers: tiny squares with big potential

I don’t know what it is about QR codes, but whenever I see one, I immediately want to scan it. Maybe it’s curiosity. Maybe it’s the feeling that there might be something interesting hiding on the other side. Whatever it is, it has a 100% success rate.

QR codes have become so familiar that nobody needs instructions anymore. You see one, pull out your phone, scan, and suddenly you’re on a website, viewing a menu, following a brand, or discovering something completely unexpected.

TL;DR:

What are QR code stickers?
QR code stickers combine a scannable QR code with a custom sticker design, making it easy to link people to websites, social media, menus, videos, events, and more.

How big the QR code be?
For reliable scanning, we recommend keeping the QR code at least 2.5 × 2.5 cm. Always test it at actual print size before ordering.

Can I print QR codes on holographic or glitter stickers?
Yes, but it’s best to keep the QR code itself fully opaque. Special effect materials can make scanning less reliable if they show through the code.

Where can QR code stickers be used?
They’re perfect for packaging, business cards, products, events, shop windows, marketing campaigns, and anything else that could benefit from a quick scan.

Why put a QR code on a sticker?

The short answer? They travel further than you think! Onto packaging, laptops, shop windows, water bottles, event booths, notebooks, counters, street poles (you didn’t hear that from me), and all those tiny in-between places where people actually notice things.

The beauty of QR codes is that nobody needs instructions. People see one and instantly know what to do. No explanations. Pull out your phone, scan, and then curiosity does the rest.

Your QR code can lead to a website, product page, menu, portfolio, social profile, discount code, playlist, signup form, video, or pretty much anything else with a URL.

Choosing the right material

Technically speaking, QR codes can be printed on almost all of our sticker materials. That said, some materials are definitely more QR-friendly than others. Special effect materials like glitter or Pixie Dust, are designed to catch light, sparkle, shimmer, and generally show off. Unfortunately, all that reflected light can sometimes make life a little harder for a phone camera trying to read a QR code.

But here’s the good news: you don’t necessarily have to choose between a cool effect and a functional QR code. If you’re using a special material, consider keeping the QR code itself fully opaque with a solid white layer underneath. That way, the material can shine everywhere else in the design while the QR code remains crisp, clear, and easy to scan.

Does it work with the effect all over? Sometimes, yes. Would we rely on it every time? Probably not.

Make the QR code part of the design. Printing on the front puts your message exactly where people are looking. Whether you’re linking to a website, promoting an event, sharing a playlist, or sending people down a rabbit hole of your own creation, a front-facing QR code is impossible to miss.

It’s bold, direct, and perfect when getting scans is the main goal.

A simple hack, print on the back!

Keep the front pretty and the details on the back. With back paper print, you can add QR codes, contact information, social media links, instructions, discount codes, or anything else you’d rather not squeeze into your design. It’s a great way to add extra functionality without sacrificing the look of the sticker itself.

Think of it as bonus content. The design gets the spotlight, while the back handles the practical stuff.

PSA: Size matters!

A QR code that scans perfectly on your computer screen isn’t automatically going to scan when it’s printed. Your screen is bigger, brighter, and usually viewed from a completely different distance than a sticker in real life. What looks crystal clear at 200% zoom can quickly become a tiny collection of mysterious squares once printed.

As a general rule, we recommend making your QR code at least 2.5 × 2.5 cm. That gives most phone cameras enough information to scan quickly without making users perform weird yoga poses trying to find the perfect angle.

Before placing your order, test the QR code at its actual printed size. And before sending anything to print; make sure to scan, then scan again.
